Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Leading Derogatory Songs About Coach Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United just seven months following starting disrespectful chants aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a contract joining the second-tier strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy time at Elland Road concluded amicably in August.

One of the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading insulting songs about Chris Wilder during the club’s promotion party this spring. Now, the former England international will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to rescue his beloved club away from the relegation zone.

Past Conflict Between the Striker & Wilder

The pair had history prior to Leeds moved up back to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as “a muppet” back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation & Looking Ahead

Everything appears to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford aiming to revive his career.

The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, called Wilder the following day.

Chris Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I have no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow pro! However I valued and admired him giving me a call.

“We had a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel too and we had a longer discussion together and he is a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of football across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”

Latest Playing Struggles

Bamford featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro player has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
