Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the initial names in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was dismissed on Sunday after the team's 10-match winless start to the Premier League season.

Furthermore both candidates - both of who have previous associations to the club - are among the options to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would pose a potential obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the ex- Luton head coach - who made over a century of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is considered a strong candidate for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves directors as they begin the process of appointing a fresh manager.

O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise candidate, even though he would be a shock appointment given he was released by Wolves in December last year.

The ex- West Ham United player is out of work which means the club would not need to provide any buyout fee.
