Seamer Atkinson Compounds England's Fitness Problems.

'Significant concern' for England as Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.

The English seamer added to the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the ground on the second morning in the Melbourne Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson felt a problem in his left hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over at the MCG.

The England team indicated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and required time on the sidelines for further assessment "over the next few hours".

The series decider in this Ashes battle in Sydney begins this coming Sunday.

England have already lost strike bowlers one seamer with a knee problem and Jofra Archer to a side strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was called up as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, managing only three wickets.

He was left out of the third Test, before being recalled for the fourth Test to fill the void.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps in Australia's first innings, then making 28 while batting being one of only three English batsmen who passed ten runs.

After bowling one over in Australia's second innings, he resumed on Saturday morning and removed Scott Boland edging to the keeper.

Unfortunately, on the final ball of that over, he delivered a slower ball to the batsman and promptly felt his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test after being left out the Adelaide game.
