Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.

The former head of state was convicted of planning a government overthrow in last fall and given more than over two decades in jail, but he continued under house arrest pending legal challenges.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after recent developments emerged.

Supreme Court justices said that he knew of a plan which encompassed plans to murder Lula and his VP candidate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to detain and kill the presiding judge - the Supreme Court justice who has been presiding over the former president's case.
