The network's Leading New Show of This Year Secures a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about watching this charming family go about their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
