The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
